Dr Zakia Sharif
I have a passion for being able to provide Obstetric care with a strong interest in high-risk pregnancies as well as routine antenatal care. I pride myself on considering these young ladies as my daughters. I feel privileged to be able to walk the journey with them which involves caring for them, their babies, and their entire family. Over the years, I have also accumulated valuable experience in gynaecology. I have a solid knowledge and confidence in my experiences but understand that continuing to learn every day will only strengthen my skills.
I moved to Australia in 1999 with my husband and three children from Iraq and became an Australian Citizen in 2001. I began my training in obstetrics and gynaecology in 2005 and have gained experience through several hospitals in Australia. In 2013, I was appointed as staff specialist in Toowoomba Base Hospital in Obstetrics and Gynaecology which helped develop my clinical skills. In 2014, I made the decision to move into Private Practice as a solo practitioner while continuing to work in the Public Hospital as well as teaching medical students. Over the years, I have grown my private practice to be the leading Obstetrician and Gynaecologist in Toowoomba and Darling Downs.
It has always been my dream to live in Hobart from when I visited in 2004. As my family has grown and my children have left home, I have decided that it is the time to achieve my dream and work with the team at Hobart OBGYN to provide care to the beautiful people in Hobart. I am excited to make the change from working as a solo practitioner for the past seven years to being a part of a supportive team which will allow my patients to have continued care.
I have a great respect for women and feel very privileged to be a part of the Hobart OBGYN team that works to improve women’s health and wellbeing.
