  • Abnormal or heavy periods can cause discomfort or pain which can impact your day-to-day life. Investigations will be completed to find the most appropriate treatment by identify the cause which may include fibroids, endometriosis or hormonal imbalances.

  • You may have a cervical screening test which shows abnormalities so requires further investigation. A colposcopy will be completed at our private practice rooms using a specialised microscope to examine the surface of the cervix for abnormalities which may include the removal of a small amount of tissue for additional testing. You will be advised on any ongoing monitoring or treatment required.

  • There are many forms of contraception available, and you will receive advice on the most suitable contraception if your focus is to avoid pregnancy. Contraception methods which may be discussed including Mirena, Implanon or medication options. A Mirena or Implanon can be inserted in either our private practice rooms or as a surgical procedure in Hospital.

  • Endometriosis is a common disease where tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus in other parts of the body. Symptoms can vary between patients but may include infertility or pelvic pain which can impact your day-to-day life. Investigations will be completed to help with the diagnosis of endometriosis and advice on the management of symptoms.

  • Uterine fibroids are non-cancerous growths that develop either in or on your uterus. Advice on the treatment of fibroids can vary depending on your symptoms such as heavy periods, back pain or pelvic pain, and infertility.`

  •  Initial investigation of fertility issues can be completed by all of our Gynaecologists. Dr Stephen Bradford offers consultations at Hobart OBGYN and completes IVF procedures at Fertility Tasmania.

  • Menopause is defined as the cessation of periods for 12 months usually caused by reduced oestrogen production. Advice on the treatment of menopause can vary depending on your symptoms which may include hot flushes, night sweats, vaginal dryness and reduced libido.

  •  Ovarian cysts are common growths of the ovaries which may resolve on their own or may require surgical treatment if they persist, grow or cause ongoing pain. Cysts will be monitored and do require a diagnosis to determine the most appropriate treatment.

  • Pelvic pain can be debilitating and can have a negative impact on your day-to- day life. Investigations will be complete to find out the cause so that treatment options can be discussed.

  • Polycystic ovary syndrome can present differently in each woman and is associated with symptoms such as irregular periods, excessive hair growth, acne, obesity and infertility. Investigations will be completed to be able to help with the diagnosis of polycystic ovary syndrome and advice on the management of symptoms.

  • If you are starting to plan for pregnancy, then you may have questions about your health or partner’s health prior to falling pregnant. Advice will be provided to optimise your health prior to conceiving and additional testing can be arranged for concerns which may include previous complications, ongoing medical issues and genetic conditions. 

  • Vaginal prolapse is a common condition where the bladder, uterus and or bowel protrude from the vagina. The condition can vary considerably depending on the type of prolapse. Treatment options will be discussed which may include surgery or pelvic floor physiotherapy.

  • Urinary Incontinence is very common in women and can affect up to 1 in 3 women. It occurs as a result of issues with the muscles and nerves that help with bladder control. Investigations will be complete to find out the cause so that treatment options can be discussed, or a recommendation for additional testing may be advised including urodynamics testing which is completed in our practice rooms.
